Multi-language support

Shutdown is being developed with multi-language support available. How many people would be interested in this feature? Would you want it to mirror the language setting of Windows, be able to be set on installation, or changed through the user interface?

As the only language I speak fluently is English, would other users of Shutdown be willing to translate a series of strings into their localised language?

I will be posting follow-ups with more details of Shutdown, screenshots and ongoing development news.

Shutdown 2.0 requirements

Its been a while since I posted about the development of Shutdown. This has progressed well and most of the components necessary to deliver Shutdown are in place.

Now I am at this stage, it is a good time to open up discussion of the features and requirements of Shutdown. I will be making a series of posts regarding Shutdown and the Falcon Framework on which Shutdown is based.

In the mean time, here is the first topic of discussion. Shutdown will be based on the .NET framework 2.0. This is a runtime environment provided by Microsoft, no OS has this installed by default however it is a simple free download from Microsoft. It is about 20MB. Would this cause an inconvenience or cause you to not download and install Shutdown 2.0?

Due to the use of the .NET framework, Shutdown will no longer be supporting Windows 95 or Windows 98, would this cause an inconvenience? How many people still use these operating systems that would want to use Shutdown?

Leave feedback, with an email address if you would like me to contact you directly.

Shutdown development blog

Welcome... there's a good start.

This blog is all about the development of an updated version of "Windows Shutdown" from now on called "Shutdown". The reason for the update is that I have had to withdraw "Windows Shutdown" from distribution under threats of legal action by Microsoft lawyers.

Why?

Because "Windows Shutdown" allegedly infriges their trademarks, having the name "Windows" at the begining. Now I don't think legally they can stop me; because I charge no money, it describes the product, and Windows is a generic term. However I don't have the money to argue the case in court - so I am forced to stop distributing the software until I can change the name.

So, "Windows Shutdown 1.4" will return as (probably): "Shutdown 2.0", however as it is still in development, there will be no distribution until it is finished.

This blog will track the status of the project to update it, but will also track the development of an exciting new project I am working on called the Falcon Framework (on which Shutdown 2.0 is written), more information about this will come out as I work on Shutdown 2.0

So watch this space for information about progress and details on the release date. I will be posting information about features, screenshots etc. and also asking for feedback, so if you want to influence the development of Shutdown, post away.
